An Overview I recently separated from the U.S. Navy and made the four thousand mile trek from Pensacola, FL back to Alaska.
My passion for service and desire to do something bigger came from the two years I spent volunteering with AmeriCorps NCCC and City Year Boston. I started my Navy career as an Aircrewman but was side-lined due to a knee injury. I was placed at the NASP Chapel where I served as the Public Affairs Specialist. I spent six months at the Chapel before I was transferred to the Public Affairs Office and was assigned as a staff writer and photographer for the Gosport, the base newspaper. My Navy career, though short, taught me a great deal about the world of mass communication, journalism and design, as well as refined my photography skills. It has also allowed me to network with people in complimenting industries and meet a plethora of different kinds of people. I currently work for the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) newspaper, The Northern Light, as the staff graphic designer. |
